Governor's Summer Intern - INDOT - Public Relations
The State of Indiana is one of the largest employers in the state, offering diverse opportunities across various agencies. The Governor's Summer Internship Program is designed for college students to gain hands-on experience in Public Relations within the Indiana Department of Transportation, assisting in various projects while enhancing their skills and marketability.

Responsibilities
Identify and execute one major project related to agency needs and academic area of study
Create, develop, and sustain the programmatic efforts for the assigned discipline
Analyze data and feedback to provide recommendations
Partner with other relevant stakeholders to promote and enhance the quality of projects
Collaborate with State of Indiana agencies to ensure effective implementation of internal and external initiatives
Assist with preparation and distribution of written communications materials including but not limited to news releases, talking points, graphics, and other materials as needed
Assist with social media content creation and monitoring on Facebook and X
Assist with gathering pictures and videos of INDOT projects district and statewide
Attend district meetings as needed (pre-construction conferences, progress meetings, public meetings, etc
Assist with event planning for public outreach
Other duties as assigned by the Public Relations Director or other directors withing the district
Finish a multimedia timeline of the Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer Project (ie. Video, graphic series, etc.)
Complete a Winter Operations Safety Campaign for the traveling public
Qualification
Required
Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate with an accredited post-secondary institution and have completed at least one (1) year of undergraduate education
Working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a related field
Academic work in related field
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to analyze data sets related to discipline
Ability to build relationships, establish credibility, and influence leaders at all levels
Ability to review and make recommendations on proposed changes to relevant policies and procedures
Basic knowledge of the mission and role of INDOT
Basic understanding of state policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
Knowledge of state government structure, administrative procedures, and the legislative process
Ability to research, draft, and edit data and reports
Ability to operate computer tools
Good research and writing skills
Good interpersonal and communication skills suitable for a wide variety of contacts
Confidence and ability to learn on the job and adapt quickly to changing circumstances
