Responsibilities
Determine and utilize inspection procedures, set-up necessary inspection tools and equipment where fixtures are not provided such as: measuring microscope, Rockwell hardness tester, profilometer, height gauge, Cadillac gauge, dial indicator, parallel bars, right angle knee, gauge blocks, precision pins, bench center, V blocks, sine bar, surface plate, optical comparator (shadow graph) computer-aided measuring equipment, laser measuring devices and the like. Work from additional information such as sketches and Westinghouse/Government/Military specifications
Make necessary measurements, check accuracy, set and adjust precision inspection equipment and special manufacturing acceptance tools and fixtures, where methods and procedures have been established and complexity is within the scope of this description. Select and utilize gauge stands such as super micrometers, torque calibrator, planekator, indiron, standard measuring machine, master gauges, optical plat, precision comparator thread setting plug/ring gauge and the like and inspect proto-type electronic assemblies and complex micro-circuit assemblies
When detected, record drawing errors and deviations from applicable specifications. Make necessary mathematical calculations to determine dimensions such as thickness, depth, angle, tapers, arcs, volumes, areas and physical characteristics such as elongation, shear strength, etc. Notify manufacturing/supervision and/or higher classified personnel of any such deviations or defects occurring in an area and identify needs for remedial actions
Inspect shipment and shipping paperwork such as Government/Customer shipping documents, contracts waivers/deviations, packaging and preservation information and the like to applicable specifications and sign to verify acceptance by Quality Control
Perform first piece, patrol, sampling, PCA (Physical Conjuration Audit) and final inspection on a variety of complete electro-mechanical LRU's, Systems and fabricated mechanical assemblies. Visually inspect for factors such as shaft and bearing alignment, sliding fits and alignments and conformance to appropriate electrical assembly specifications and standards. Assist higher classified inspection personnel in performing first article inspection
Inspect castings and forging where prior sample approval has been given. Inspect machined parts and Sheetmetal fabrications of a complex nature which are characterized by such factors as many related dimensions, a variety of arcs, curves, and compound angles, irregular contours and an absence of locating surfaces, to assure conformity to quality specifications
Inspect spotwelded and/or fusion welded assemblies for dimension and weld quality. Check set-up of spotwelding equipment including time, pressure and current controls of machines, tip size and shape. Periodically witness result of micro-tech and mechanical tests for penetration strength and location of weld. Perform non-destructive inspection such as dye penetrant, magnetic particle, ultrasonic and review of X-ray film of electronic assemblies also to identify imperfections
Perform first piece tool and tape inspection approvals where procedures have been established and the approval consists of inspecting pieces that is within the complexity of this description. This would include such approvals as electronic cable form boards, manufacturing product samples, mill and/or drill tools, Sheetmetal templates and the like
Maintain equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition and maintain records of equipment calibrated
