Responsibilities
Lead the end-to-end electrical design and define the architecture for automotive BMS hardware, aligning with vehicle system requirements and functional safety goals (ISO 26262). Guide and mentor hardware development teams
Elicit and define system and performance requirements by working directly with internal and external customers and stakeholders
Perform and oversee the design of BMS hardware, including high-voltage monitoring, cell balancing, protection circuits, communication interfaces (CAN, LIN, SPI), microcontroller selection, and sensor integration
Create detailed schematics, perform component selection, and collaborate with PCB layout designers to ensure design for manufacturing (DFM), reliability, and performance
Build, test, and debug hardware prototypes. Conduct verification and validation testing to ensure designs meet all performance, safety, and durability specifications
Conduct and document critical design analyses (DFMEA, WCCA) and create comprehensive design documentation, including specifications, test plans, and reports
Work closely with software, systems, and testing teams to integrate the BMS into the complete vehicle energy storage system
Lead technical design reviews, troubleshoot complex hardware issues, and drive continuous design improvements. Provide oversight and coordination for global or offshore team members
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
7+ years of experience in hardware design, with a proven focus on automotive Battery Management Systems (BMS) or high-reliability automotive electronics
Extensive experience in analog/digital circuit design, microcontrollers, sensor integration, and high-voltage/power electronics
Proficiency with PCB design tools (e.g., Altium Designer, Cadence) and simulation tools (e.g., SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink)
Deep understanding of battery technologies, battery safety, and relevant automotive standards (ISO 26262, IEC 62133, AEC-Q100)
Proven experience in leading hardware design projects and mentoring engineers
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
Preferred
Product experience with Li-Ion batteries, battery pack design, EV powertrains, ECUs, and MEMS sensors
Knowledge of programming/scripting languages (e.g., C/C++, Python) for hardware validation
Experience collaborating with or managing global engineering teams
Demonstrated ability in technical leadership, including conducting design reviews and resolving cross-disciplinary challenges
