The Regional Area Sales Manager in Training is responsible for driving sales growth and operational excellence across multiple locations, providing leadership and coaching to ensure high performance and exceptional customer satisfaction.

Retail

Responsibilities

Develop and execute strategic plans to achieve regional sales, gross margin, operating expense, and key performance targets
Lead store management teams in meeting and exceeding performance goals, including Sales Per Guest (SPG), Net Promoter Score (NPS), Gross Margin (GM), and other key KPIs
Optimize guest conversion and sales execution through Ashley’s Proven Sales Approach
Monitor financial performance across all assigned locations, analyzing daily reports and identifying trends to drive improvements
Conduct ongoing business reviews and store audits to assess performance in merchandising, sales, marketing, staffing, and operational efficiency
Utilize Staffing to Traffic methodologies to ensure optimal scheduling and resource management
Serve as a mentor and coach for Sales Managers, General Sales Managers, and future leaders, modeling Ashley’s core values and sales leadership behaviors
Develop and implement training initiatives that reinforce best practices, product knowledge, and guest engagement strategies
Participate in Visual Walks to assess category performance and provide actionable feedback
Recruit, develop, and lead high-performing sales management teams capable of supporting Ashley’s growth strategies
Conduct regular team meetings to communicate business priorities, track progress, and recognize achievements
Maintain a visible presence in the stores, directly engaging with customers to observe the shopping experience and support store teams
Ensure stores uphold Ashley’s brand standards and guest-ready environments at all times
Partner with leadership on store openings, relocations, remodels, and closures to maximize enterprise profitability
Foster collaboration and communication between store teams and corporate leadership, addressing escalated issues promptly
Participate in market strategy meetings to implement best practices and operational improvements
Achieve store-specific and regional Sales Budgets
Monitor and drive success in Close Rate, Sales Per Guest, Average Sale, and Sleep %
Improve Net Margin, Protection %, Team Opportunity Split %, and Financing Application %
Increase Appointment % of Unsold Guests and maintain high Net Promoter Score (NPS)
Monitor and optimize controllable expenses such as utilities, shrinkage, maintenance, and cash handling

Required

5 to 7 years of retail sales and sales management experience in a multi-store, high volume organization required, preferably with experience in retail or hospitality (furniture retail not required)
Demonstrated career growth with tenure with experience operating as a district manager or equivalent with an extensive store count
Expertise in Retail & Sales Operations: Deep understanding of sales strategies, retail workflows, and operational best practices to drive business success
Industry Knowledge: Strong familiarity with furniture products, styles, and trends, ensuring an informed and consultative sales approach
Business Acumen: Proven ability to integrate finance, management, marketing, and merchandising principles into strategic decision-making
Relationship Building: Exceptional ability to establish and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with team members, customers, and stakeholders
Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Skilled at analyzing performance metrics, identifying trends, and translating insights into data-driven action plans that optimize results
Leadership & Culture Development: Ability to cultivate an engaging, high-performance culture through clear vision, empowerment, and team development
