Director of Retention & Lifecycle Marketing
Mercatalyst is a company that creates engaging online shopping experiences and is looking for a Director of Retention & Lifecycle Marketing. The role involves leading the strategy to enhance customer relationships, increase repeat purchases, and reduce reliance on acquisition channels through data-driven marketing efforts.
Responsibilities
Build core flows: welcome, activation, second purchase, VIP, churn prevention, win-back, and more
Transition the company from 'daily broadcasts' to behavior-driven, customer-first messaging
Develop predictive segments and actionable customer cohorts
Create personalization layers across email, SMS, and onsite experiences
Own email/SMS strategy, execution, testing, reporting, and deliverability
Improve list growth, list hygiene, and meaningful engagement
Partner with Analytics to craft LTV, retention, and cohort reporting
Use behavioral data to surface churn risks and unlock repeat-purchase drivers
Manage and mentor an Email Specialist โ driving excellence, velocity, and quality
Align lifecycle strategy with merchandising and curated-box initiatives
Shape offer strategy, creative development, and customer experience improvements
Qualification
Required
Experience in retention and lifecycle marketing
Strong understanding of customer segmentation and personalization strategies
Proven ability to manage and mentor team members
Experience with email and SMS marketing strategies
Ability to analyze customer data and derive actionable insights
Experience in developing automated customer journeys
Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Ability to drive measurable revenue impact through marketing initiatives
