Responsibilities

Manage breaking news and enterprise stories on the legislative dealmaking on Capitol Hill and scoopy, agenda-setting coverage of the Justice Department and the FBI
Inspire and develop reporters to do best-of-class reporting that routinely breaks news
Push Reuters political coverage to be first and best, every day, across mediums and platforms

Required

Experience editing political journalism is a must
Ability to consistently make good decisions about what to do (and not do) in a fast-paced and highly competitive news environment
Ability to work with reporters to get scoops and break news
Ability to elevate copy
Proven skill at editing sharp, incisive and illuminating political coverage
Ability to spot signal amid the noise of daily political developments, while developing the best targets into high-impact stories
Enthusiasm for working collaboratively across desks and disciplines
Understanding of multi-media elements to enhance stories, from graphics to pictures and video
A record of overseeing both breaking news and enterprise stories, with a record of helping reporters to break news
A deft hand with copy from reporters with a range of talents
Superb news judgment and the ability to help reporters discern the reliability of sources
