Responsibilities
Proactively monitor the health and connectivity of the entire network of Canopy gateways across all Rush Health facilities
Conduct regular rounds to physically locate, troubleshoot, and resolve issues with disconnected gateways (e.g., unplugged, damaged, network issues)
Install, configure, and name new or replacement gateways to expand coverage or improve location granularity in clinical and non-clinical areas
Physically secure gateways in high-traffic or public-facing areas using protective hardware to prevent tampering or accidental removal
Manage the inventory of spare gateways and serve as the primary point of contact for ordering and receiving new hardware from Canopy
Collaborate with Facilities and IT departments to manage the removal, storage, and re-installation of gateways during unit renovations or remodels
Serve as the lead coordinator for large-scale go-live events and button distribution for new departments, buildings, or employee groups
Assist the Badging Office and department leaders with the logistics of button assignment, distribution, and collection as needed
Assist with the configuration and management of staff notification groups (e.g., SMS alerts, mobile app notifications, third-party integrations)
Serve as the primary administrative owner of the Canopy software platform
Act as the primary internal support resource for all Canopy-related help desk inquiries, serving as the liaison between Rush Health employees and the Canopy support team for issue escalation
Generate and analyze monthly and ad-hoc reports on system health, duress alert incidents, and response times to identify trends and inform safety strategies
Conduct regular system testing by performing test alerts in various locations to validate system performance, functionality, and location accuracy
Collaborate with the Public Safety / Security dispatch team to ensure they are supported and proficient in using the Canopy alert dashboard
Develop and deliver clear and effective training sessions for new and existing staff on how the Canopy Protect system works and how to use their duress button correctly
Create and distribute communication materials to promote awareness and proper use of the Canopy system
In partnership with the Public Safety department, assist in facilitating general de-escalation training for staff
Support or lead workplace violence prevention workshops, covering topics like threat recognition, situational awareness, and non-violent intervention techniques
Collaborate on safety awareness campaigns, such as newsletters, posters, or town halls, to educate staff on reporting mechanisms, early warning signs of violence, and the role of Canopy in prevention
Conduct or assist with periodic safety audits and risk assessments in clinical and non-clinical areas, identifying environmental factors that could contribute to violence and recommending mitigations like additional Canopy coverage or physical security enhancements
Support emergency management drills and simulations involving workplace violence scenarios, testing response protocols and integrating Canopy alerts to improve coordination between security, clinical staff, and emergency teams
Track and report on key workplace safety metrics beyond Canopy (e.g., post-incident debriefs) to help measure the impact of prevention programs and identify training gaps
Serve as a resource for incident investigations related to workplace violence, providing Canopy data (e.g., alert timelines and locations) to support thorough reviews and lessons learned
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field is a plus
2-3 years of experience in a technical support, system administration, or field technician role
Strong hands-on technical troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve hardware and basic network connectivity issues
Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to train and explain technical concepts to non-technical users
Proficient with standard office software and comfortable learning new technology platforms and dashboards
Must be able to navigate large, complex hospital facilities efficiently
90% vehicle travel to Rush Hospital networks
Preferred
Experience working within a hospital or large-scale healthcare environment is strongly preferred
