Senior Director, Communications

The Senior Director, Communications will be responsible for developing and executing communications strategies across BSE’s platforms, focusing on external communications for its entertainment portfolio and supporting communications for its sports portfolio.

Responsibilities

Develop and lead BSE’s external communications strategy for its entertainment, hospitality, and media businesses, including Barclays Center, Brooklyn Hospitality Group, BKMag, Type.Set.Brooklyn, and new ventures
Support corporate communications for the Brooklyn Nets and New York Liberty
Develop and lead BSE’s external communications strategy for its technology storytelling
Serve as a senior advisor to the Vice President of Communications and key BSE executives, providing strategic counsel on messaging, media positioning, and communications planning
Lead thought leadership efforts for senior executives, securing speaking opportunities, media placements, and industry visibility for the Chief Marketing Officer, Chief Technology Officer, Chief Entertainment Officer, Chief Products and Experiences Officer, and others
Support communications strategy for new ventures, helping launch and position emerging properties within BSE’s expanding portfolio
Proactively pitch and secure coverage across entertainment, culture, lifestyle, technology and business outlets, generating consistent visibility for BSE brands, initiatives, and executives
Draft and edit press releases, statements, media advisories, and brand messaging, ensuring clarity, consistency, and a strong voice across all BSE platforms
Manage onsite media operations for Barclays Center events including concerts, college basketball, boxing, family entertainment, cultural programming, and hospitality-driven activations
Assist in maintaining the department’s storylines, fact sheets, media outreach tracking documents, and media distribution lists
Manage and mentor a multi-vertical communications team, including the Manager, Entertainment Communications and Manager, Sports Communications

Required

A minimum of 10 years' experience in a strategic communications role with a track record of delivering measurable results through both internal and external communications
Bachelor's degree is required
Knowledge of key players in the sports, entertainment and hospitality industries, and how industry news directly or indirectly affects the business
Experience pitching stories of all types to a wide selection of media outlets and working with reporters/editors/producers
Extensive media contacts and knowledge of both New York and national media with the ability to identify new media outlets and generate coverage regularly
Highly creative, culturally-fluent Communications professional with a strong eye for entertainment, culture, hospitality, technology and media trends—and an ability to translate them into compelling story angles
Strategic thinker who understands how entertainment and culture intersect with brand building, audience engagement, and business priorities
Expert in identifying impactful communications opportunities, distilling complex topics into simple messages, writing clear content, and coaching leaders in a values-centered way
Collaborative and self-directed strategist capable of influencing a range of stakeholders with diplomacy, flexibility and focus
Well-rounded and enthusiastic creative professional, ready to pursue big ideas through exceptional writing, editing, and interpersonal skills
Exceptional organizational and project management skills; executing with speed, high level of accuracy and efficiency, attention to detail, and follow-through

Preferred

Experience at a Public Relations firm/agency or within entertainment, music, and sports industry preferred
Bachelor of Arts degree preferred
