Surveyor II/III

The Montana Department of Transportation is currently recruiting a Surveyor II or III in the Billings District. The role involves performing advanced survey work as a party chief or planning and overseeing professional survey projects, ensuring compliance and quality in survey operations.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Performing advanced technical and professional field survey work
Serving as party chief for field surveys
Reviewing surveys to determine the validity of the evidence and methods used and to ensure accurate survey information
Maintaining equipment and inventories
Performing other duties as assigned
Planning and performing professional survey work
Organizing and overseeing straightforward survey projects
Signing off on uncomplicated survey projects
Analyzing evidence to determine boundary locations
Staking/documenting property boundaries
Coordinating survey reviews to ensure quality, consistency, efficiency, and compliance with established standards and policies
Making professional level survey calculations
Carrying out complex drafting
Providing training to field survey crews
Coordinating the operation and maintenance of survey equipment within the Unit

Required

Education equivalent to an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, or a related field from an accredited college or university
Significant coursework in survey related math, drafting, and surveying techniques, principles and practices
Minimum of 2 years of survey experience for Surveyor II
Certification as a Land Surveyor Intern, per 37-67-326, MCA
Education equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, or a related field from an accredited college or university for Surveyor III
Two years of progressively responsible professional land survey experience for Surveyor III
Registration as a Montana Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) is required for Surveyor III
