SFILDC Legal Lead Attorney

The Bar Association of San Francisco is seeking a Legal Lead Attorney for the Immigrant Legal Defense Program at the Justice and Diversity Center. Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate legal strategy, mentorship, and training for the SFILDC organizations, in conjunction with the technical assistance organizations of the SFILDC and other partners
Lead monthly case roundtable and steering committee meetings for SFILDC and participate in coordination calls with SFILEN, SFRRN, MOHCD, OCEIA and CCIJ
Lead SFILDC quarterly executive committee meetings, in coordination with fiscal lead, CARECEN
Oversee data management, media strategies and communications on behalf of SFILDC
Organize the annual retreat for SFILDC partners
Supervise and coordinate legal clinics on behalf of SFILDC in partnership with OCEIA, SFILEN and SFRRN
Support SFRRN as an emergency responder for the on-call calendar
Provide technical support to SFILDC partners and the San Francisco Rapid Response System to ensure access to legal counsel for San Francisco residents detained by ICE
Provide legal consultations to prose respondents and a small caseload of 1-2 removal defense or habeas corpus cases per year
Provide counseling and same-day representation to individuals in non-detained removal proceedings before the San Francisco Immigration Court through the Attorney of the Day program, an average of 1-2 times a month
Supervise limited scope services provided to pro se respondents, including I-589 applications, pro se motions and preparation for merits hearings
Provide direct supervision to the following JDC staff: SFILDC Senior Case Coordinator, Immigration Legal Services Coordinator and two SFILDC staff attorneys
Review and prepare grant reports to government agencies and private foundations
Attend all meetings as directed by the ILDP Director, including appearances at public engagements with City departments and funders, other community partners, the Boards of Directors at the JDC and BASF, and the Immigration Court
With AOD Supervising Attorney, serve as a liaison with the Immigration Court judges and administrators, provide training for volunteer attorneys, analyze data and supporting other matters relating to SFILDC and the Attorney of the Day Program at the San Francisco Immigration Court
Other tasks as assigned by ILDP Director based on grant deliverables or relevant changes in immigration law and policy

Required

Licensed Immigration Attorney with a minimum of 7 years of experience handling both detained and non-detained immigration case work
Experience in immigration removal defense, appeals before the Board of Immigration Appeals and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals
Lead and coordinate legal strategy, mentorship, and training for the SFILDC organizations, in conjunction with the technical assistance organizations of the SFILDC and other partners
Lead monthly case roundtable and steering committee meetings for SFILDC and participate in coordination calls with SFILEN, SFRRN, MOHCD, OCEIA and CCIJ

Preferred

Admission to the State Bar of California preferred
Experience with habeas corpus petitions
Experience working with immigrant populations
Experience in fundraising with public and private funders, public relations and community partnership building
Experience with analyzing trends and outcomes
Experience with the presentation of statistical analyses
Experience with managing multi-media content, including social media
Experience with supervising data entry/record-keeping
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite. Experience with LawLogix and Cerenade is a plus
Bilingual in Spanish highly desirable, but not required
