Staff Electrical Designer (Atlanta)
Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Electrical Designer to design various electrical projects and ensure adherence to design standards. The role involves creating electrical schematics, planning drawings, executing design assignments, and maintaining project documentation.
Responsibilities
Design various electrical projects including creating electrical schematics, grid plan layouts, electrical power systems, lighting systems, protection and controls, and site and facility design
Follow all company, client and project design and drafting standards
Plan and develop drawings for production work including problem analysis, design layout and calculations on non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity
Execute variety of electrical design assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing various system components and refining rough sketches
Execute changes to designs or sketches and redlines or mark-ups on ongoing projects
Analyze reports, drawings and tests to plan and design projects
Interpret and incorporate design codes and specifications related to design requirements
Review design drawings for quality assurance within scope, budget and schedule
Perform project tasks and assignments within budgeted hours and deadlines
Compute volume calculations for conduit/grounding layouts, equipment and panel wiring diagrams and relay panel schematics
Organize and maintain all revisions of project drawings, plot files and project-related information are stored in a logical and well-structural manner
Responsible for clear and concise written and verbal communications, as it relates to the project client coordination
Primarily domestic travel up to 5% of the time is required for client & site visits
Telecommuting is allowed up to 30 days per year
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting Technology, or a directly related field plus five (5) years of experience in mechanical or electrical engineering, supporting modeling and design
Alternatively, the employer will accept seven (7) years of experience supporting modeling and design on mechanical or electrical engineering projects in lieu of a Bachelor's degree plus five (5) years of described experience
Five (5) years using CAD Software (AutoCAD, MicroStation) and Excel to develop the design deliverables
Five (5) years using 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings
Five (5) years performing quality review of design deliverables, including knowledge of client & industry standards to guide design decisions
Three (3) years performing on-site field surveys of existing facilities, using 3D reality-capture tools
Three (3) years post-processing field-collected 3D data into models, usable as inputs to 3D engineering design
Three (3) years project execution planning and project management support
One (1) year designing mechanical/electric systems and performing associated calculations
One (1) year preparing data & analysis for cost estimation or bidding
