Test Technician Apprentice

Responsibilities
Test Heavy Duty Gas Turbines
Perform simple to complex troubleshooting and repair on a variety of heavy-duty gas turbine equipment and balance of plant equipment, both electrical and mechanical systems
Conduct gas turbine test operations as scheduled, and assure test planning, test methods, quality procedures and safety procedures are followed
Identify, report and correct defects and malfunctions on heavy-duty gas turbines and facility equipment
Provide technical instruction and work to contract support staff
Perform and/or assist in laser alignment of high-speed shafts
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance of electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems
Demonstrate ownership and participate with the teams in Safety, Quality, Continuous Improvement, and Lean efforts
Perform gage calibration on instruments
Demonstrate ability to work independently and perform as part of a team
Learn basic machine and system operation for a variety of equipment to assist in troubleshooting
Accurately utilize various types of precision measuring and test equipment associated with the evaluation of function and repair to heavy-duty gas turbines and facility equipment
Operate various material-moving equipment (e.g., forklifts, straddle-hoist and jib/gantry cranes)
Safely and effectively utilize various hand tools, shop equipment, fixtures, and tooling
Perform any other assigned duties as required
Qualification
Required
Applicants must hold an Electronics Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Electronics, Computer Technology, IT Systems or similar Degree or be currently enrolled in a local community college pursuing the degree
Successfully pass an extensive interview process
Successfully pass an Accredited Community College Entrance Exam
Successfully pass all mechanical/electrical/computer aptitude assessments
Ability to work overtime as required, with or without reasonable accommodation
Ability to work occasional weekend shifts as required, with or without reasonable accommodation
Ability and willingness to work any shift: 1st Shift (6:45 AM-2:45 PM) 2nd shift (2:45-10:45 PM) or 3rd shift (10:45 PM-6:45 AM)
Internal applicants must meet time on current job requirements, no active disciplinary action (within last 12 months) and must have 'Meets Expectations' or better rating on latest appraisal
Ability to perform work while standing a minimum of 7 hours per day, with or without reasonable accommodation
Ability to carry 40 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
Ability to conduct repetitive motion tasks daily, with or without reasonable accommodation
