Manufacturing Engineer Manager – Space Hardware - 2nd Shift, Amazon Leo

Amazon Leo is an initiative by Amazon to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites aimed at providing broadband connectivity to underserved communities. The Manufacturing Engineer Manager will lead the second shift assembly, integration, and test processes for space hardware builds, collaborating with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure successful satellite integration.

Responsibilities

Working with engineering teams – plan and optimize workstation layouts for Assembly, Integration & Test (AIT), to intended throughput capacities
Material flow planning and manufacturing process definition – spacecraft and dispenser level, assembly & test
Implement and continuously improve assembly, integration and test processes
Specify and procure various assembly equipment and systems to meet program development requirements
Interface with facilities personnel in site usage and integration flow
AIT takt time & cost optimization planning
Definition & implementation of Work Order and automated documentation processes
Payload compliance certification sign-off
Anomaly resolution and corrective action implementation
Assist in hiring personnel (engineers and technicians) related to above tasking

Required

Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, material science or other related discipline, or relevant experience
3+ years of technical leadership role in facilities and operations setup
5+ years of experience with developing space mechanical assemblies (or 7+ years of experience with space hardware build and development or 10+ years of experience in design and manufacturing of technically complex assemblies and products)
3+ years experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures

Preferred

Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
Experience with the project management of technical projects
5+ years experience in space deployment mechanisms
Experienced with various automated manufacturing processes, including assembly and test methods at component level, subsystem, and system level
Experienced with handling and tracking systems for continuous material flow to manufacturing lines
Highly familiar with QTP/ATP and production test methods, and automated data acquisition and collection
Formal training/certification in Operational Excellence Systems (Lean, 5S, Six Sigma, etc.) a plus
Strong organizational, analytical, root cause analysis and problem solving skills
Excellent communication and leadership skills
