Responsibilities

Serves as the Senior Energy Project Planning and Siting, Sustainment, and Airspace and Range Attorney for the USAF JAG Corps. Incumbent is responsible for the highly specialized, professional support of the Department of Air Force's legally and technically complex, multi-billion-dollar, high mission impact energy, sustainment, and airspace and range and land use programs involving Federal, State, and local environmental statutes, regulations, ordinances and policies
Maintains Highest Level of Subject Matter Expertise in the Environmental Legal Aspects of Sustainability, Encroachment Prevention, and Energy Development. Recognized as the principal subject matter expert in energy project planning and siting, sustainment, and airspace and range law and has significant experience in additional practice areas such as airspace and range operations and management; environmental compliance and management; natural and cultural resources; land use; fiscal law and administrative law
Provides assistance to Department of Air Force and Department of Justice litigators on airspace and range, encroachment, energy project planning and siting, and sustainment matters in dispute in administrative, regulatory, or federal court proceedings. Furnishes primary expert legal advice based on the interpretation or application of federal, state, or local law and regulations to Department of Air Force and Department of Justice litigators at various locations throughout the world

Required

Must be a graduate of a law school accredited by the American Bar Association
You must provide proof, dated within four months of application, of 'active' status with a bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia
You MUST have successfully completed a full course of study in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and have the first professional law degree (LLB or JD)
You must have professional legal experience in excess of three (3) years that commensurate with the position's duties and responsibilities
Must have a law degree (JD) from an accredited law school and be a member in good standing of the bar of the highest court of a state or the District of Columbia or other Federal Bar, as appropriate
Must have the skill and ability to conduct complex legal research and a familiarity with the research resources most commonly involved in environmental, occupational safety and health, natural and cultural resources, real property, airspace and land use laws
Must have in-depth experience as a practicing environmental law attorney and possess at least ten years of relevant experience
Must be thoroughly competent in federal civil procedure, environmental, natural and cultural, real property, airspace, and land use law and knowledgeable in administrative and general law
Must be highly skilled in written and oral advocacy in order to prepare and present written and oral briefings before decision-makers
Must possess superior negotiation skills and be capable of high order, rational, and logical thinking in order to formulate, coordinate, and present the Air Force legal position before regulators, elected officials, the public, and senior officials for the Air Force, other military services and other relevant agencies

Preferred

A Master of Laws (LL.M.) in environmental law is highly desirable
Previous experience using computer word processing software such as Word for Windows, Excel, and Power Point is highly desirable but not required
Experience working within a large and complex legal organization is highly desirable but not required
Experience working at high levels with the Department of Defense or Department of the Air Force is desired but not required
