Responsibilities

Supervise personnel to meet the evolving goals of the Coast Guard's Mariner Credentialing Program
Manages all aspects of the Coast Guard's Mariner Credentialing knowledge examination program
Manages all aspects of U.S. Merchant Mariner training and practical assessment approval with focus on conformity, consistency, quality, and continuous improvement
Using self and subordinate staff expertise, advise the Mariner Credentialing Program on a wide range of technical maritime industry matters
Collaborates with maritime industry to balance regulatory requirements, industry need, and emerging technologies

Required

Must be a U.S. Citizen
Must be registered or exempt from the Selective Service
A one-year probationary period may be required

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the federal sector
Must hold or have held a U.S. Merchant Mariner credential in the grade of Master, Any Gross Tons (AGT) or Chief Engineer, Unlimited and International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) certification or the equivalent military experience as Commanding Officer or Engineer Officer or Chief Engineer of vessels of more than 1600 Gross Tons and 4000HP
Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet Federal qualification requirements if you can show that your foreign education is comparable to education received in accredited educational institutions in the United States
Submit a copy of your college transcript (unofficial is acceptable) from an accredited institution
Once selected & prior to appointment, applicants must provide an official college transcript
If you are qualifying based in whole or part on education, you are required to provide all unofficial transcripts (undergraduate, graduate, etc.) by the closing date of this announcement or you will be disqualified from further consideration
If course content cannot be easily identified from the title of the course as listed on your transcript, you must submit an official course description from the college/university that reflects the content at the time the course was taken
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications
Failure to provide all of the required information as stated in this vacancy announcement may result in an ineligible rating or may affect the overall rating
