Pharmacist (Outpatient Specialist Clinical Pharmacy Supervisor)

Responsibilities

Manages day-to-day operations of the outpatient specialty clinic pharmacy staff to include but not limited to anticoagulation clinic, HBPC, outpatient specialty clinics, outpatient mental health, and pain clinics
Serves as a consultant within the pharmacy department and with other facility health care staff in evaluating health care delivery to patients, including serving on medical center committees when requested
Participates in medical center and departmental performance improvement initiatives
Completes job performance evaluations, recommendations for awards, and/or disciplinary actions clinical pharmacy specialists and support staff and makes recommendations to Chief of Pharmacy when appropriate
Participates as a member of the health care system in an interdisciplinary approach to provide quality patient care. Note: This supervisory position will be required to maintain a component of his/her time in direct patient care activities
Serves to maintain current drug information resources with the goal of providing prompt, accurate, and up-to-date information
Reviews and evaluates incoming non-formulary and clinical referral requests for appropriateness when necessary. Contacts provider to make alternative formulary recommendations where appropriate to promote optimal cost effective therapy
Conducts patient medication profile reviews when requested by medical/surgical staff and makes recommendations for optimizing therapy giving consideration to patient demographics and concomitant disease states
Participates in meetings, conferences, and training programs relevant to the development and maintenance of clinical pharmacy programs
Identifies continuing education, training needs, etc. for pharmacy staff as related to drug therapy and responds to those needs by conducting on-the-job training, in-services, etc
Assists in preparing and coordinating new employees' on-boarding experience
Responsible for implementing and documenting training and expanding capabilities of pharmacists and clinical support staff
Serves as a preceptor for pharmacy students and/or pharmacy residents
Participates in research programs as needed and assists with other pharmacy staff, resident, and student research projects
Ensures that research is in compliance with protocols and procedures as established by the Indiana University and VA research

Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree
Graduates of foreign pharmacy degree programs meet the educational requirement if the graduate is able to provide proof of achieving the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Commission (FPGEC) Certification
Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia
In addition to the GS-12 requirements, must have 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level
Ability to effectively supervise subordinate staff
Ability to communicate orally and in writing to persuade and influence clinical and management decisions
Expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards pertaining to pharmacy
Skill in managing people or programs

Preferred

3+ years experience working in a direct patient care clinical pharmacy specialty area
