Responsibilities

The incumbent is required to independently plan and conduct investigations relating to staff improprieties
The incumbent monitors and/or conducts investigations involving allegations of staff misconduct
He or she analyzes data and information received by the OIA concerning such allegations
The incumbent will handle only those extremely difficult cases most suited for a highly experienced investigator
The incumbent assists the Chief, OIA, in the responsibility of developing long—range work plans, programs, and national policy, and determining goals and objectives for the management of a comprehensive system of investigation throughout the BOP

Required

U.S. Citizenship is Required
You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level
Specialized experience is directly related experience that included substantial involvement with a correctional program and provided a thorough knowledge of correctional techniques, or experience in meeting and dealing with people that demonstrated the ability to work effectively with inmates and associates in a correctional environment
Experience must have also demonstrated the ability to perform supervisory or administrative duties successfully
Understanding the problems of custody, treatment, training, and release of inmates of penal or correctional institutions
A thorough and comprehensive knowledge of an institution's internal policies, programs, regulations, and procedures
Training subordinates, coordinating and directing activities and functions, evaluating performance of operations and the effectiveness of programs, and maintaining high standards or work objectives
Experience in coordinating, preparing and presenting inquiries and investigatory reports for high level agency officials and staff of other government and non-governmental agencies
Experience in analyzing policies and procedures based on results of investigations, and is responsible for drafting proposed revisions to existing program statements or drafting proposed language for new program statements or operations memoranda
Experience which demonstrates extensive knowledge of investigative procedures, employee rights and responsibilities, handling of evidence, questioning strategies, legal consideration and ethics
Experience in providing technical assistance to field personnel by evaluating and discussing investigative problems and by making suggestions to assist in conducting of local investigations
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications
