Junior Applications Developer (NY HELPS)
Capital Region BOCES is seeking a Junior Applications Developer to assist with designing, writing, modifying, maintaining, and supporting computer software programs. The role involves working under the direction of management to assess software needs and provide technical training, while also participating in planning meetings and enhancing existing software applications.

Responsibilities
Assists with the design, writing of, or modification of existing software programs providing departments with the ability to perform administrative, business and financial functions, that were previously performed manually, on a personal computer or computer network
May provide software-related technical training and assistance to departments
Assists with the analysis, design, testing, and performance of feasibility studies on new software applications to meet the needs of departments in preparation of proposing new software applications to satisfy needs of departments
Prepares sample program test data, performs testing and makes modifications, revisions and corrections to eliminate software errors in new or existing software applications
Participates in planning meetings with departments regarding administrative, business and financial computing needs
Periodically analyzes and enhances existing software applications to meet departmental needs
Assists in the evaluation and recommendation of vendor software products
Performs detailed program documentation including flow charts, coding sheets, operator instructions and related testing materials
Performs, monitors and verifies backup operation
Prints and prepares materials for distribution to end-users
Performs daily tasks involving maintenance of existing databases
Maintains and stores inventory of computer related supplies
Performs other related duties, as required
Qualification
Required
Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in management information systems, computer science, information resources management, information technology, or a closely related field
Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State college or university with an Associate's Degree in management information systems, computer science, information resources management, information technology, or a closely related field and one (1) year of experience in analysis, design, programming or data modeling in information resources management
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two (2) years of experience in analysis, design, programming or data modeling in information resources management
Good knowledge of personal computer programming principles, techniques and concepts
Good knowledge of personal computer networks and software
Working knowledge of the application of major types of information technology equipment to administrative, business and financial functions
Working knowledge of software system design
Working knowledge of computer system analysis and language applicable to computer programming
Ability to plan and think logically
Ability to translate and adapt administrative, business and financial data to software for use in data processing operations
Ability to install and use personal computer software
Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position
The selected applicant will be subject to a fingerprint supported criminal history background check in accordance with SAVE Legislation effective July 1, 2001
