Lead Instrument & Controls Engineer
Applica is representing a major ENERGY client operating large-scale modular LNG facilities that support global energy demand. The Instrument & Controls Engineer will lead small to medium projects within the I&C discipline, ensuring high-quality engineering and design deliverables that meet project cost and schedule requirements.
Responsibilities
Leading I&C engineering and design teams across multiple projects
Supervising designers/engineers and ensuring high-quality deliverables
Interpreting project specifications and coordinating with other disciplines
Supporting scope development, cost estimation, scheduling, and progress control
Leading RFPs, detailed engineering, and field support activities
Ensuring compliance with industry standards and project codes
Participating in quality assurance processes and supporting verification of design deliverables
Providing mentorship to junior and intermediate I&C personnel
Supporting construction and commissioning teams as needed
Interfacing with contractors, vendors, and project stakeholders
Identifying issues, proposing solutions, and managing design changes
Qualification
Required
Post-secondary education in Instrumentation & Control or related engineering field
15+ years of direct I&C engineering and design experience
Experience leading multiple small to mid-sized engineering projects
Prior experience in the energy sector (LNG preferred; oil & gas required)
Familiarity with digital tools, digitization, and data acquisition systems
Strong knowledge of I&C deliverables, including: P&IDs, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, instrument specs, I/O lists, Control narratives, cause & effect diagrams, functional safety, Panel design, installation details, BOMs, cable schedules, work packages
Competency in instrument selection and calculations (flow, pressure, temperature, level, analyzers)
Working knowledge of control systems such as PLCs (Rockwell), SIS (Yokogawa/Honeywell), and DCS platforms (Honeywell, Yokogawa)
Understanding of CAD tools and SmartPlant Instrumentation (basic level acceptable)
Strong MS Office skills
Preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas and/or Louisiana preferred
Site experience considered an asset
Knowledge of electrical systems is an advantage
