Responsibilities
Assist with planning, developing, and implementing programs related to solid waste management, public awareness and education, source reduction, recycling, composting, transformation, and household hazardous waste and collection
Organize and coordinate the activities of public and private recycling groups
Interpret and apply applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
Write logical, comprehensive, and concise reports and correspondence
Prepare and analyze statistical data
Represent the County in front of schools, community groups, and the general public
Develop and prepare effective presentations including coordination, marketing, and presentation of materials
Establish and maintain cooperative, effective working relationships with customers, co-workers, other agencies and the general public
Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
Effectively organize and prioritize work assignments
Keep accurate and orderly records
Apply customer service skills, including the identification of customer needs and follow up to ensure customer commitments have been met
Qualification
Required
A bachelor's degree, or higher, from an accredited college or university
Four years of full-time paid experience working at a waste management and/or recycling facility, or supporting or promoting solid waste and/or recycling/resource recovery programs
Knowledge of applicable laws, rules and regulations related to solid waste and recycling
Knowledge of principles of effective customer service
Knowledge of materials, equipment and methods used in solid waste and recycling operations
Knowledge of local environmental, political, and planning issues related to solid waste management, source reduction, recycling, composting, transformation, and household hazardous waste and collection
Basic knowledge of solid waste and recycling techniques as related to the environment, energy conservation, and the economy
Knowledge of municipal, commercial, and industrial solid waste and recycling programs
Knowledge of office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and other specialized applications related to area of assignment
Knowledge of English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation
Ability to organize and coordinate the activities of public and private recycling groups
Ability to interpret and apply applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
Ability to write logical, comprehensive, and concise reports and correspondence
Ability to prepare and analyze statistical data
Ability to represent the County in front of schools, community groups, and the general public
Ability to develop and prepare effective presentations including coordination, marketing, and presentation of materials
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative, effective working relationships with customers, co-workers, other agencies and the general public
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action

A valid California Driver License, Class C or higher, shall be required at the time of appointment
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds without assistance
