Technical Service Manager

Responsibilities

Provide technical and administrative leadership to a team of Engineering and Project Management personnel within the manufacturing site
Responsible for all staffing and management activities for the team, leading capital project engineering, process control, improvements and reliability
Drive continuous improvement, support growth, and innovation
Works closely with Production and Maintenance to ensure that adequate resources are collaboratively working on proper priorities, providing technical leadership, appraising alternative approaches to the solution of problems, committing and planning resources, setting deadlines, and following up to successful problem/project resolution
Tracks and reports on engineering targets for capital projects
Ensures that programs are properly resourced (both quality and quantity) for success, whether through assignment of direct resources, or leverage of external resources as required
Provides team leadership, support and development of direct and extended team
Process Owner for Program Management & Change Control
Ensures compliance to Company procedures (e.g. Process - Work Instructions) & standards
Ensures Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA’s), control plans, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and supports problem solving initiatives by implementing corrective action
Maintaining a knowledge of design techniques and all applicable software systems
Provide expertise in industrial engineering and process design to other departments
Understanding of the concepts of synchronous manufacturing and lean production manufacturing methodologies and the ability to formulate and implement a tactical plan
Assists in the commissioning of new plants/ lines equipment, and other systems to ensure that the introduction into the production facility is handled efficiently and with minimum disruptions
Provide technical and administrative coaching and mentoring for engineering personnel
Conduct performance reviews including individual employee development goals
Time management for self and team to set priorities, goals and timelines
Interacts with, provides regular progress reports to management via various communication methods and tools
Perform risk assessments, as necessary
Participates in the preparation of the department’s operational budget
Coordinates with Product Development to manage new product trials, processes, etc
Interfaces with company and other outside technical resources. Includes reviewing and discussing general operations, production projections, inventories, discussing technical problems and requesting expertise and technical advice and support
Ensures good communication across all resources and multiple levels of the organization to achieve goals as defined by upper management
Participates in long range resource planning in support of identified production and maintenance plans
Coordinates the training and development of employees including identifying development needs, implementing programs as required, monitoring progress and coordinating with HR as required
Evaluates process and procedures and makes recommendations to management for Continuous Improvement opportunities

Required

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or closely related field or eight (8) to ten (10) years process and/or production engineering experience in the nonwovens/pulp & paper industry
Five (5) years managerial experience
Intermediate computer skills including MS Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
Problem solving and strong analytical skills required
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from impacted parties
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work efficiently without direct supervision
Ability to work well under extreme pressure independently and as part of a team
Ability to manage direct reports in an efficient and engagement fostering manner
Ability to be a resource throughout the organization

Preferred

Lean Manufacturing experience, preferred
Six Sigma Greenbelt or other statistical based continuous improvement methodology, preferred
