Executive Advisor, Health System Funds Flow

UC San Diego Health is seeking an Executive Advisor for Health System Funds Flow to provide financial guidance and decision-making for health leadership. This role involves reviewing funds flow structures, collaborating with financial leadership, and managing financial arrangements between the health system and the School of Medicine.

Responsibilities

Collaborates to achieve solutions with high level stakeholders such as School of Medicine Business Officers, faculty leaders, committee chairs, senior administrators and other UC locations to develop solutions to complex problems; provides briefings on key issues
Represents the Chief of Staff on high-level task forces and long- and short-range financial planning groups
Establishes collaborative partnerships with School of Medicine Business Officers across all departments, and operational and administrative leadership across the Health System
Handles highly complex and critical projects and leads projects of significance requiring facilitation and collaboration with representation across organizational functions
Provides high level analyses on a broad range of issues, including new financial arrangements
Acculturates new leaders in financial structures, methodologies, resources, tools, and processes
Participates in the development of the annual funds flow budget to Health Sciences as an advisor; determining expense priorities, recommending and implementing changes to methods, unit planning, staffing, programs and other financial activities
Provides a framework for changes to financial structures and funds flows, develops strategies for change management to remove barriers and achieve goals
Stays well-informed and keeps abreast of key healthcare trends and regulatory changes impacting financials, as well as current issues in higher education to inform the Chief of Staff and leadership with broad perspective across the organization
Initiates and designs studies, summary reports and background materials including approaches, trends, sources and uses, etc., that have a significant impact on individual or multiple departments
Administers small to mid-level independent program(s), typically with broad and/or organization-wide impact

Required

Bachelor's degree and five or more years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education and training
Senior level finance or strategy experience within healthcare or academic medical center
Substantial experience overseeing and/or negotiating financial arrangements/professional services agreements between physicians and health system
Successful experience working with confidential and sensitive matters
Solid business acumen and analytical skills, including an understanding of academic medicine, demonstrated experience developing and implementing operating plans, analyzing financial and quality data
Ability to accomplish results and effectively integrate functions with business plans
Consistently demonstrates and encourages a commitment to quality, customer-oriented, productivity and continuous improvement
Demonstrates a leadership style that builds and maintains a climate of trust and inspires commitment from others to achieve organization goals. Ability to remain professional and calm under pressure
Consistently interacts with all members of the organization in ways that enhance understanding, respect, cooperation and problem solving
Outstanding communication skills and high emotional intelligence. Ability to develop and maintain critical relationships across a diverse population

Preferred

Advanced degree in relevant field of study
Ten or more years of relevant experience involving funds flow within a complex academic health system
