Project Engineering Manager

Responsibilities
Lead and manage all project engineers, senior engineers, and technical specialists
Conduct performance reviews, define skills development plans, and support career progression
Ensure engineering teams maintain high billable utilization and meet project demand forecasts
Partner with Resource Management to align engineering availability with project and request pipelines
Promote a culture of technical excellence, efficiency, and continuous learning
Ensure engineering execution meets quality, timeline, and scope expectations for all client engagements
Validate technical architecture, designs, and implementation plans prior to project kickoff
Oversee project escalations requiring deep technical expertise
Collaborate closely with the Sr. Director of Project Management to ensure consistent delivery models and project governance
Support project managers with scoping, risk identification, and engineering resource alignment
Maintain and enforce engineering implementation standards, documentation requirements, and build methodologies
Ensure all engineering work aligns with defined solution architecture, technology standards, and security baselines
Lead efforts to improve standard configurations, automation, templates, and reusable frameworks
Partner with the Manager, Methodology, to ensure engineering processes map to ITIL practices and operational workflows
Ensure engineering quality and consistency through audits, peer reviews, and structured validation
Serve as Tier-3/Tier-4 escalation point for complex technical issues during project or implementation work
Collaborate with the Sr. Director of Managed Services for cross-tower escalations requiring engineering support
Ensure escalated issues are resolved quickly, documented, and used as learning opportunities for the broader team
Partner with the Sr. Director of Technical Services & Architecture to ensure alignment between engineering execution and architectural strategy
Work with the vCIO/vCISO teams to validate proposed solutions during roadmap development or strategic planning engagements
Ensure Service Delivery Directors and Client Success leadership are informed of project risks, delays, or technical implications
Support Demand Coordinators by validating technical requirements for service requests
Aligning engineering capabilities with roadmap initiatives, new offering development, and innovation programs
Ensure engineering teams follow standardized documentation practices and maintain accurate records
Lead engineering root-cause analyses for major project issues to prevent recurrence
Analyze performance trends and implement improvements in process, tooling, team capability, or technical standards
Drive continuous improvement initiatives that increase engineering quality, velocity, and predictability
Provide executive leadership with consolidated engineering performance insights and improvement plans
Qualification
Required
7+ years of engineering leadership experience in a Managed Services or Professional Services organization
Strong expertise in infrastructure, cloud, network, security, and modern engineering methodologies
Proven record in project execution leadership and technical governance
Experience building and managing high-performing engineering teams
Excellent communication, executive presence, and cross-functional leadership skills
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
Experience working with ITIL, project governance frameworks, or architectural standards
Certifications such as Azure/AWS Architect, VMware VCP, CCNP/CCDP, or similar engineering-level credentials
Experience with automation, DevOps methodologies, or scripting
