Director R&D Process Engineering

The Director of R&D Process Engineering will lead the vision and execution of advanced process development for next-generation products, ensuring manufacturability and regulatory compliance across the innovation pipeline.

Responsibilities
Define and implement long-term process engineering strategies aligned with Dexcom’s innovation roadmap
Champion adoption of emerging technologies and systems
Build and lead a high-performing team
Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and technical excellence
Architect and implement advanced process development, equipment, and fixtures for new products and technologies
Oversee design-to-manufacturing transfers and enable scalable production systems
Own complex process flows to enhance performance, yield, and reliability
Drive structured problem-solving using DOE and statistical analysis tools to reduce cost and improve efficiency
Ensure robust documentation (pFMEA, control plans) and validation protocols
Maintain compliance with FDA 21 CFR 820, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, and EU MDR
Partner with R&D, Quality, Operations, and Regulatory teams to align technical execution with business objectives
Represent process engineering in executive reviews and strategic initiatives
Qualification
Required
Typically requires a Bachelor's degree with 15+ years of industry experience
Requires a degree in a technical discipline
9+ years of successful management experience in relevant industry
Deep expertise in process development and integration
Proven experience in high volume electromechanical devices advanced process development with a track record of launching complex products production
Fluent in Six Sigma, Lean manufacturing, and structured problem-solving methodologies
Hands-on experience in process validation and statistical analysis tools like JMP
Understanding of the full product lifecycle—from concept to commercialization
Navigate quality systems and frameworks including FDA QSR, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, and EU MDR
Ability to communicate with clarity and executive presence
Ability to embrace change and lead with empathy
Demonstrates sound judgment and critical thinking in evaluating complex scenarios
Leads change with agility
Coaches and mentors emerging engineers and leaders
Solves complex problems with a structured, results-oriented approach
Drives cross-functional collaboration to align technical execution with business goals and regulatory requirements
Leads with integrity, empathy, and commitment
Preferred
PhD in Mechanical, Biomedical, or Materials Engineering
Experience leading process engineering teams in innovative, high-volume manufacturing organizations
