Senior Director, Fellow, Enterprise Architect

BNY is a leading global financial services company that influences nearly 20% of the world’s investible assets. They are seeking a seasoned Enterprise Architect to drive the design and adoption of reusable architecture patterns and streamline architecture governance, while integrating architecture practices with software development lifecycles. The role also involves pioneering AI-assisted architecture design approaches to enhance delivery speed and quality.

Financial Services

Responsibilities

Define and maintain a catalog of reusable, executable architecture patterns: Create versioned, testable patterns (reference implementations, IaC modules, code scaffolds, policy-as-code, and CI/CD templates) that accelerate delivery while ensuring compliance and quality
Streamline and modernize architecture governance: Design lightweight, outcome-driven guardrails, controls, and decision workflows that reduce friction, increase transparency, and elevate signal-to-noise across architecture reviews
Integrate architecture with SDLC: Embed architects and patterns into developer workflows (epics, code reviews, pipelines, automated gates) to enable 'governance by design' and reduce late-stage rework
Establish and evolve standards: Author and maintain technology standards, reference architectures, and decision frameworks that are clear, testable, and easy to adopt across platforms and practices
Champion AI-assisted design: Evaluate and pilot AI-driven tools for pattern recommendation, design validation, risk identification, and documentation generation; define safe, compliant usage patterns and measurable benefits
Enable teams and scale adoption: Deliver playbooks, workshops, and enablement content; partner with platform leads, product owners, engineers, and risk/compliance to ensure adoption at scale
Drive measurable outcomes: Define and track KPIs (e.g., cycle time reduction, defect prevention, policy adherence via automated checks, reuse rate of patterns, cloud/resource cost efficiency, and security posture scores)
Govern decisions and traceability: Establish architecture decision records (ADRs), rationales, and lineage that connect business outcomes, technical choices, controls, and implementation artifacts
Influence strategic roadmaps: Consult on platform and product strategies, ensuring architectural choices align with business priorities, operational resilience, and cost optimization
Foster a culture of excellence: Model BNY principles—Be Client Obsessed, Spark Progress, Own It, Stay Curious, and Thrive Together—through collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement

Required

10 plus years in architecture roles (enterprise, solution, platform), with demonstrated impact delivering large-scale, distributed systems in regulated environments
Expertise in modern architecture domains: cloud-native (AWS/Azure/GCP), microservices, APIs, event-driven designs, data platforms, security architecture, and reliability engineering (SRE)
Proven experience making architecture executable: IaC (e.g., Terraform), policy-as-code (e.g., OPA), CI/CD (e.g., GitHub Actions/Jenkins/Azure DevOps), automated quality/security gates, and reference implementations
Strong fluency across SDLC and agile delivery: product thinking, backlog grooming, sprint ceremonies, and hands-on partnership with engineering to translate architecture into working code
Practical governance experience: designing risk-aware, lightweight processes; implementing controls without impeding velocity; and fostering measurable compliance through automation
Exposure to AI/ML in engineering workflows: understanding of GenAI-assisted design, coding assistants, architectural validation, and responsible AI considerations (model risk, data protection, auditability)
Excellent communication and influence: able to translate complex concepts for diverse audiences, build consensus, and drive adoption across platforms and practices
