Intern - Wildlife Habitat Management (Summer)
The State of South Dakota is seeking an intern for Wildlife Habitat Management. This position will work with habitat staff to develop, maintain, and improve wildlife habitat while gaining experience in land management practices and facilitating access to hunting areas.

Responsibilities
Work along with the habitat staff to develop, maintain, and improve wildlife habitat on game production areas in north central South Dakota
Help facilitate access to walk-In and CREP hunting areas
Attend and give input in land management meetings
Perform habitat management practices
GIS Mapping
Noxious weed control
Boundary posting
Pre/post-management vegetation monitoring
Noxious weed data entry/analysis
Assist with wildlife and fisheries population surveys
Radio telemetry
Predator trapping
Working with local conservation officers
Qualification
Required
APPLICANT MUST BE A CURRENT PART-TIME OR FULL-TIME STUDENT (MINIMUM OF 6 CREDIT HOURS) IN UPCOMING SEMESTER OR IN THE IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING SEMESTER
Must have a valid drivers license
Must be able to pass agricultural pest certification and ATV/UTV safety courses
Candidate must be able to work outdoors and be able to operate an ATV or UTV
Must be able to lift 40 lbs. and traverse rough terrain
Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply
By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program
Preferred
Range management, prescribed fire, vehicle repair or welding classes would be of benefit
ATV certification, CDL, GIS experience and South Dakota Pesticide Applicator license would be useful but will train as necessary
Preference may be given to applicants with a standing of junior/senior, South Dakota residents, and students of South Dakota institutions
