Benchling Consultant
GeBBS Consulting is a leader in Healthcare Technology solutions, and they are seeking a Benchling Consultant to support their major life sciences partner. The role involves supporting the technical design, build, upgrade, and optimization of the Benchling platform for scientific data management and laboratory operations.
Responsibilities
Design, build, upgrade, and test Benchling components spanning integrations, configuration, workflow updates, and environment setup
Set up integrations using Benchling’s native tools, minimizing custom development while ensuring seamless data flow
Develop and support integrations leveraging Benchling APIs, SDKs, and instrument file parsing for ingestion into Benchling
Gather and analyze business requirements to support enhancements, workflow optimizations, and new feature deployments
Support onboarding of incremental user groups, provide adoption guidance, and troubleshoot user issues
Configure and maintain Benchling templates, schemas (Entity, Result, Inventory, Request, Workflow, Run), Insights dashboards, and configuration migrations
Conduct feature-release impact assessments, documentation updates, and process alignment activities
Collaborate with Benchling Support to resolve platform issues and implement best practices
Provide technical support for MRL Instrument File Parsers (MIFP) and instrument integrations within Benchling
Work with AWS services including EC2, CloudFormation, Lambda—to build, deploy, or maintain integration solutions
Execute SQL scripts, write queries, manage Oracle databases, and support data transformations
Monitor, troubleshoot, and implement minor enhancements to existing integrations and data pipelines
Provide GxP and non-GxP operational support, including sample management guidance and inventory-related workflows
Advise laboratory SMEs on Benchling usage, peripherals (e.g., barcode scanners), and optimized scientific workflows
Serve as a product SME supporting the lifecycle of Benchling and integrated systems, maintaining knowledge articles and documentation
Configure registry, inventory, dropdowns, and label-printing templates; build and manage storage hierarchies in Benchling
Participate in validation activities including authoring, reviewing, and approving test scripts/cases
Work with product vendors to design workarounds for system limitations and implement sustainable solutions
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline
5+ years of software development or technical consulting experience, ideally within biotech or pharmaceutical settings
Proven, hands-on experience working with the Benchling platform
Strong understanding of sample management lifecycle, scientific data flows, and R&D laboratory processes
Experience with LIMS/ELN systems, especially Benchling
Knowledge of pharmaceutical R&D workflows and ability to translate lab processes into system configurations
Familiarity with GLP, GMP, CSV, and data integrity principles in regulated environments
Understanding of laboratory automation, hardware peripherals, and instrument connectivity
