Responsibilities

Provides clerical and receptionist duties on unit including accurate order transcription, maintaining medical records according to HIPAA, completes admissions, discharges, and transfer processes
Ability to take direction from others and follow through in a concise manner, which also promotes efficiency
Ability to communicate using written, verbal, non-verbal skills when interacting with patients, families, staff and physicians and ancillary departments
Ability to set priorities
Acts to protect and advance patient’s best interest
Satisfactorily demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties outlined in this job description as well as continually demonstrates competency in performing the job duties

Required

High School graduate or equivalent required
Effectively reads, writes and speaks fluent English
Good communication skills, both orally and written
Computer skills needed
Ability to work with others as a team to ensure quality patient care

Medical terminology
BLS healthcare required within 30 days of hire
For clinical departments where Dysrhythmia monitoring & interpretation is required: A Basic Dysrhythmia class is required within 30 days of hire, and a passing grade on the Basic Dysrhythmia competency exam after two attempts within two weeks of the class

Preferred

Completion of a medical terminology class
Six months experience as division secretary
Trained as medical records or admitting clerk
