Direct Support Professional Supervisor

Responsibilities

Selects, schedules, supervises, mentors, coaches, provides job related education and training, and evaluates Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) assigned to a specific module(s) to ensure treatment plans and appropriate services are provided to individuals with developmental disabilities to enhance their quality of life and community inclusion

Required

A BA/BS degree in human services or a related field is preferred
Knowledge of basic health care
Knowledge of the needs of individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities
Knowledge of policies and procedures in place at SDDC for individuals who are intellectually or developmentally disabled
Knowledge of effective methods of supervision
Knowledge of behavior management techniques, including measures for individual protection
Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in the training of developmentally disabled population
Knowledge of typical behavior at various levels of developmentally disabled individuals
Knowledge of capabilities and limitations of each functioning level of the developmentally disabled
Knowledge of techniques used in conducting training programs for developmentally disabled individuals
Knowledge of physical and emotional needs of institutionalized individuals
Knowledge of CPR and First Aid
Knowledge of DSP scheduling process, including the scheduling software system
Knowledge of Crisis Prevention Intervention techniques
Ability to competently utilize the scheduling software system
Ability to supervise and provide work direction to staff in carrying out unit activities with a person
Ability to mentor, coach, and train new Direct Support Professionals (DSPs)
Ability to organize and meet timelines
Ability to exercise discretion and judgement and make sound decisions under pressure
Ability to monitor, utilize and evaluate the provision of individualized support plans
Ability to communicate sufficiently to explain individualized support plans to DSPs
Ability to implement person centered practices
Ability to recognize and properly react to atypical behavior
Ability to help developmentally disabled individuals achieve self-help skills, behaviors, and manners commensurate with their capabilities to enhance their quality of life and prepare them for community transition
Ability to follow established policies and procedures
Ability to relate well to developmentally disabled individuals and serve as a role model in demonstrating appropriate behaviors
Ability to follow instructions, keep records, and prepare narrative and numerical reports; including the ability to competently utilize/navigate each individual's electronic master record
Ability to instruct staff in the theory, practices, and procedures of treatment of developmentally disabled individuals, and to orient new staff to the units
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with staff
