DEPUTY STATE FIRE MARSHAL - Inspections

The Deputy State Fire Marshal – Inspector is responsible for conducting fire and life safety inspections of state licensed facilities and providing training and information to ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Responsibilities

Perform fire and life safety inspections of residential and health care facilities, childcare, and group homes to ensure compliance with state and/or federal laws and codes. Overtime may be required to fulfill inspection functions
Perform construction inspections to ensure compliance with applicable fire and building codes in support of the Bureau plan review program
Assists in the development and presentation of fire safety and prevention programs to reduce fires within the state
Develop a working partnership with jurisdiction within the assigned geographic area for the duties assigned

Required

High school diploma or GED equivalent
Two years of experience as a fire prevention officer, code enforcement officer: or insurance industry inspector
High School Diploma and WA State Divers License
Successfully complete pre-employment polygraph/background check with the WSP
Demonstrated ability to effectively analyze information and communicate decisions and recommendations related to fire and life safety requirements: organization and time management skills; knowledge and ability to apply state construction methods and materials
Must complete within 1st year of employment: ICC Fire inspector 1 and 2, CMS Life Safety Code, IFSAC Fire Instructor I, IFSAC Fire Inspector I or NFPA Fire Inspector I. (IFSAC Fire Inspector I or NFPA Fire Inspector I is a pre-requisite for attending CMS Life Safety Code.)
This position requires you to have a Washington State Drivers License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment due to traveling to and from inspection facilities
