Controls Engineer

MoveATech is partnering with a dynamic automation manufacturer seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to support the design, programming, and implementation of custom automated equipment. This position plays a key role in delivering safe, reliable, and high-performing automation solutions across various industries, including automotive and medical.

Responsibilities

Develop control system architecture, including electrical and pneumatic diagrams, bills of materials, and supporting documentation
Build, test, and refine PLC/HMI software using structured design methods
Run debug and commissioning activities on the production floor
Travel to customer facilities to perform system installation, troubleshooting, and start-up support
Ensure all wiring and hardware follow accepted industrial practices and codes
Participate in safety risk assessments and ensure machine designs adhere to required safety standards
Update project documentation upon completion, including final prints, program revisions, and operator instructions
Contribute written sections to machine manuals focusing on controls, safety, and operational workflow
Communicate clearly with customers and document key technical decisions
Assist pre-sales and applications teams by reviewing requirements, preparing concept input, and offering cost guidance
Join internal design reviews and cross-functional project meetings
Provide field or remote support for control-related issues throughout the project lifecycle

Required

Strong background in control system design and industrial automation

Preferred

Machine safety design concepts (e.g., Category 3 vs 4, Stop Categories 0/1/2)
Safety PLCs and dedicated safety controllers
Integration of safety hardware such as light curtains, scanners, interlocks, mats, and emergency-stop circuits
Working knowledge of standards such as NFPA 79 and ANSI B11.19
Familiarity with fail-safe design and troubleshooting methods
