Beach Office Manager - Summer 2026
The City of Evanston is seeking a Beach Office Manager for the summer of 2026. This role is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Dempster St. Beach Office, which includes hiring and managing staff, maintaining office systems, and ensuring compliance with beach regulations.

Responsibilities
Know and enforce all rules and regulations pertaining to the Evanston Lakefront
Conducts recruitment and hires seasonal employees
Supports operations by maintaining office systems and supervising staff
Maintains office services by organizing office operations and procedures, controlling correspondence, designing filing systems, reviewing and approving supply requisitions, and assigning and monitoring clerical functions
Maintains office efficiency by planning and implementing office systems, layouts, and equipment procurement
Designs and implements office policies by establishing standards and procedures, measuring results against standards, and making necessary adjustments
Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results
Keeps management informed by reviewing and analyzing special reports; summarizing information; identifying trends
Maintains office staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees
Maintains office staff and gate attendant’s job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees, and planning, monitoring, and appraising job results
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
Inspects vessels and enforces rules at sailing beach and power boat launch
Manages Amilia waiting lists, rentals, beach tokens and daily admissions
Attend staff training sessions
Collect all due monies and check beach tokens at the beach office
Balance all collected monies at the end of each shift
Responsible for effective and appropriate communication to patrons
Communicate and coordinate with Sailing and Aquatic Camp staff regarding rentals and lessons
Know current beach programs and events and be able to communicate details to patrons
Attend staff meetings as scheduled by office manager and outdoor program coordinator
Maintain a clean and safe office environment
Responsible for care and maintenance of equipment and storage areas
Complete written reports such as accident, incident, batch and the like on a timely basis
Communicate to supervisor(s) if there are problems or issues needing special attention
Performs other reasonable duties as assigned
Assists with pre and post-season maintenance-related tasks as assigned
Qualification
Required
Must be at least 18 years of age
Available to work May 23 to September 7, 2026
Basic knowledge of standard money handling procedures & customer service skills
Pass both the Criminal and DCFS background checks
Pass drug and alcohol screen
Basic math skills exam and interview
Must be able to work at least 4 days a week
Completed at least 1 year of high school
Complete all preseason training
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations
Ability to read staff manuals, memoranda, and attendance sheets
Ability to complete daily log sheets, accident reports, incident reports, jump reports, first-aid reports using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, and style
Ability to give verbal direction to subordinates, communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, citizens, and the public as well as other employers
Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly in order to move objects
Ability to lift, kneel, bend, stand for long periods of time, identify or distinguish colors, and work outdoors at night with limited lighting
Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions such as rain, high temperatures, and humidity
