Loan Manager

Oklahoma City University is seeking a Loan Manager who will be responsible for the administration and maintenance of student aid loan programs within the Financial Aid department. The role involves managing the application process for Direct and Private loans, ensuring compliance with federal regulations, and serving as the primary contact for the Department of Education.

Responsibilities

Demonstrate an attitude and behavior that reflects the mission and values of the university
Administer the application process of Direct Loans and Private loans to include: determine eligibility, create originations, process through the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) portion of the Department of Education (DOE), and determine academic progress
Responsible for loading all Direct Loan files received from DOE
Complete Stafford and PLUS loan originations within Banner
Manage reconciliation of Direct Loan Program
Work disbursement reports to ensure loan funds are correctly applied to student accounts
Complete alternative loan certifications on ELM
Extract originations from Banner and DOE via EDConnect system
Import disbursement rosters, response files, and reports for Private loans from ELM
Load disbursement rosters and response files for Private loans into Banner
Process loan returns within Banner and return money to lender via ELM for Private loans
Monitor updates within Ellucian communities for updates to Banner for the processing of loans
Test loan processes for Banner in the test environment prior to Banner updates being installed into production
Oversee and conduct Entrance/Exit interviews according to Federal regulations
Demonstrate knowledge of Federal regulations relating to student loans
Serve as the primary contact for DOE
Responsible for creating and maintaining a default prevention plan encompassing not just Student Financial Services but the campus community. Work closely with federal servicers, OCAP, and reports provided by the Department of Education to perform due diligence on delinquent borrowers
Create and maintain a communication plan to counsel and inform current students and alumni on loan debt and default prevention. Develop a timeline with a series of emails, letters, etc. to be sent to students and alumni at different points in the lifecycle of their loans
Handle all problems arising with student deferments, and maintain default files on OCU borrowers
Attend recruitment events on behalf of the Financial Aid Office (Stars 101, SACE program open houses, etc.) as needed
Attend Open House, Off-Campus, and Roundtable Sessions to speak about financial aid as needed
Work closely with Admissions, Registrar, and Student Account Services to help resolve student issues and concerns
Assist the Director, Associate Director, and Assistant Director with any assigned tasks
Other duties as assigned

Required

A minimum of three years of experience within Financial Aid, Student Accounts, or a related higher education student aid/accounting area is required, including a minimum of one year of direct experience in loan processing
Strong preference for experience using Banner
A suitable combination of education and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements
Thorough understanding of all aspects of the federal student loan programs and private education loans
Working knowledge of Veteran Affairs Benefits and Services for military members and their dependents is required (may be obtained via on the job training if needed)
Excellent computer skills, including MS Office proficiency
Familiarity with accounting and bookkeeping principles; ability to comprehend financial functions; basic computation skills
Proficiency in Banner
Ability to communicate and work with a variety of people of varying backgrounds
Ability to manage, at times, a heavy workload and continue to meet assigned deadlines
Ability to maintain customer service orientation in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work independently with a high degree of accountability and accuracy
Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet manner
