Responsibilities

Assists surgeons and nursing personnel in the OR

Adheres to unit aseptic standards

Assembles necessary supplies for the surgical procedures

Assists the surgical team by passing instruments and related items as needed

Performs general and unit specific receptionist and secretarial duties

Assumes responsibility for maintaining adequate unit stock

Complies with unit aseptic standards

Assists with direct patient care as deemed necessary by the Charge Nurse and/or OB Manager

Qualification

Surgical tech certificationBLS certificationCNAI certificationWillingness to learnCommunication skills

Required

High School diploma or equivalent

NC CNAI certification required

BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required

New employees required to have certification will be expected to have current certification at new hire or obtain within 30 days of hire date

Needs to be willing to learn and perform different procedures

Needs to have excellent communication skills to work directly with nurses, anesthesia, and physicians

Willingness to learn sterile technique, instruments, and correct passing techniques

Needs to also be willing to learn different equipment and knowledge to operate that equipment

Must demonstrate an ability to respond to changing workloads and to perform in an accurate and precise manner in crisis and emergency situations when time is critical

Must demonstrate an even temperament, tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and a professional attitude

Must insure that all contracts with patients, the public, physicians, and other hospital personnel are carried out in a friendly, courteous, and considerate manner

Preferred

Graduate from an accredited surgical tech program is desired

Previous secretarial experience preferred

Previous OR Tech experience desired but not required will provide on the job training
