Part-Time Interior Design Instructor (Pool)

San Mateo County Community College District is seeking a Part-Time Interior Design Instructor to teach classes as assigned, including kitchen and bath courses. Responsibilities

Teach classes as assigned; possibly day, evening, and weekends, from the regular Interior Design Department curriculum
Consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours
Maintain expertise in current teaching and discipline technologies
Perform other duties required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs
Teach kitchen and bath courses in the Interior Design program
Teach advanced concepts of kitchen and bath systems, including construction elements, HVAC, and plumbing, and practical applications for interior designers

Required

Any bachelor's degree or higher and two years of related professional experience, OR any associate degree and six years of professional experience, OR the equivalent
Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice both within and outside of the classroom
Certification by the State of California in Interior Design
Knowledge of college-level courses in interior design for the interior design field
Knowledge of the interiors industry, and enthusiasm for sharing professional knowledge and experiences, including first-hand work experience
Successful teaching techniques and experience in the discipline (community college level preferred)
The development and update of the interior design curriculum and recent, successful related experience
Interior design field currency through professional membership in one of the interior design organizations, i.e., IDEC, ASID, or IIDA
Understanding and commitment to the role and purpose of the community college and awareness of the philosophy and objectives of California Community Colleges
Use and develop teaching methods emphasizing cooperation and collaboration, engaging students actively in learning, encouraging them to become independent, creative learners with higher-order thinking skills
Organize and explain materials in ways appropriate to students with different abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experiences
Organize and teach theoretical and practical applications of the subject matter in ways appropriate to students' abilities
Commitment to the SMCCCD goal of integrating writing skills across the curriculum
Excellent communication skills and an understanding (theory and practical) of the career options in the emerging field of interior design
Work with an interior design advisory board and business/industry, and a commitment to advise and place students in appropriate work experience sites
Organizational skills
Use a computer to prepare correspondence, memoranda, and other written materials

Preferred

Successful teaching techniques and experience in the discipline (community college level preferred)
