Responsibilities

Demonstrate the ability to attract senior talent and multiple functions from inside and outside of company

Recognize trends for larger-scale development needs within and across teams and builds plans to develop skills

Audit department goals to ensure alignment with broader organizational goals and that these goals are aligned with and accountable for department performance against goals

Develop and communicate department vision that supports the broader organizational vision; ensure team culture consistently demonstrates alignment with leadership principles; and visibly ties department decisions to leadership principles and tenets

Lead the development, implementation, and delivery of successful large-scale, critical and/or difficult software efforts involving significant work (can be new software or a refactor of existing software). Heavily influence the development and write a significant portion of the 'critical-path' code

Think in terms of architecture, not just code. Have detailed knowledge of the work done by your team and proactively work to improve consistency and integration between your software and related software (owned by other teams)

Influence your team’s technical and business strategy by making insightful contributions to team priorities and approach. You take the lead in identifying and solving ambiguous problems, architecture deficiencies, or areas where your team’s software bottlenecks the innovation of other teams. Make software simpler

Able to communicate your ideas effectively to achieve the right outcome for your team and customer. Harmonize discordant views and lead the resolution of contentious issues (build consensus)

Lead design reviews for your team and actively participate in design reviews of related software or other team software at your location

Code, development and implementation decisions set a great example to others. Provide insightful code reviews and take ownership of outcome. ('You 'ship it', you own it.') Work very efficiently and routinely deliver the right things

Demonstrate technical influence over 3-4 teams, either via a collaborative software effort or by increasing their productivity and effectiveness by driving software engineering best practices (e.g., Security, Quality, Operational Excellence, etc.)

Actively participate in the hiring process as well as mentor others - improving their skills, their knowledge of your software, and their ability to get things done

Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards

Required

Extensive Experience (14+ years): Proven track record in software engineering, with significant leadership experience (5+ years) in delivering complex, high-scale, mission-critical applications

Full Stack Expertise: Deep proficiency in both backend (scalable services, APIs, diverse programming languages/frameworks, distributed systems, databases) and frontend (modern frameworks, responsive and performant UIs) development

Public Cloud Mastery: Expert-level experience with major public cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), including designing, deploying, and managing cloud-native solutions

Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Advanced proficiency in industry-standard IaC tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible) for automated infrastructure provisioning and management

CI/CD Leadership: Comprehensive understanding and hands-on experience with modern CI/CD pipelines, leveraging platforms such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, Harness, or Tekton, coupled with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)

AI-Powered Code Assistance: Familiarity and practical experience with AI-powered code assist tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to enhance developer productivity, code quality, and accelerate development cycles

Generative AI & AI Concepts Awareness: Strong understanding and awareness of Generative AI platforms and broader AI capabilities (e.g., Large Language Models, AI-driven development platforms) for tasks such as summarization, intelligent Q&A, and advanced automation, including familiarity with multi-agent systems

Security & Compliance in Cloud/AI: Demonstrated understanding of cloud security best practices, data privacy, data classification, and regulatory compliance principles applicable to public cloud deployments and the responsible use of AI technologies

Driving Mission-Critical Applications: Proven ability to lead and motivate engineering teams to successfully deliver and maintain highly available, fault-tolerant 24x7 mission-critical applications

Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Exceptional ability to provide technical guidance, mentor engineers, and foster a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and technical excellence within the team

Strategic Problem Solver: Strong analytical and strategic problem-solving skills, capable of addressing complex technical challenges and making informed architectural and technical decisions

Effective Communication: Superior verbal and written communication skills to articulate complex technical concepts, strategies, and project statuses to diverse audiences, including technical teams and senior leadership
