Responsibilities

Perform risk and fire protection engineering
Specification, design review, construction review, commissioning, and ongoing support for all fire protection and loss control systems
Lead external risk engineering inspections and surveys (both property and boiler/machinery)
Conduct internal risk engineering surveys
Scope and lead risk improvement projects that satisfy recommendations from surveys and internal risk engineering standards
Provide technical direction and specification to outside designers and engineering technologists for the design of the company’s fire protection and risk management systems
Review technical work products for compliance with building and fire codes and internal standards
Review installed systems for compliance with specifications, lead system commissioning, and accept the system on behalf of the Company

Required

0-2 years of experience in fire protection engineering for Fire Protection Engineer I
3+ years of experience in fire protection engineering for Fire Protection Engineer II
5+ years of experience in fire protection engineering for Fire Protection Engineer III
Possess an ABET accredited engineering degree specifically in fire protection engineering or possess a current or expired P.E. in fire protection engineering
Knowledge of fire protection engineering theories and principles
Knowledge of explosion mitigation systems (such as those installed in accordance with NFPA 68 & 69)
Knowledge of IBC/IBC and NFPA codes, inclusive of those that are utilized in high hazard industrial applications
Knowledge of industry / insurance standards such as those from FM, API, or DNV-GL
Knowledge of gas, flame, and other safety related process control systems
Knowledge of hand calculations or calculation software associated with water based fire suppression, clean agent fire suppression, fire dynamics, and deflagration venting
Ability to evaluate risks within energy and high hazard industrial environments
Knowledge of property and machinery related failure modes and mitigations for large power generation equipment, LNG / petrochemical facilities, offshore facilities, and renewable technology such as battery energy storage systems (BESS) and hydrogen
Knowledge of Process Hazard Analyses including HAZOPs and LOPA's
Knowledge of cryogenic protection and passive fire protection for petrochemical applications
Ability to develop and exercise leadership skills
Effective decision-making skills
Effective oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing)
Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems
Ability to interpret codes, regulations and practices
Equally effective working independently or in a team environment
Ability to process information quickly and effectively manage multiple tasks
Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Fire Protection Engineering program
Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program and a Master's Degree in Fire Protection Engineering
Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Fire Protection Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited
Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license in Fire Protection Engineering
