Research Engineering / Scientist Assistant

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a Research Engineering / Scientist Assistant to support an interdisciplinary research team focused on molecular genetic research using zebrafish and human cells. Responsibilities

Develop, collect, conduct, and analyze research projects including genotyping, behavior tests, and gene editing as part of a team of faculty, research staff, graduate students, and undergraduate assistants
Assist with database management
Assist with IACUC submission & management
Assist with maintaining regular lab supplies and inventory management
Assist with zebrafish strain colony management
Assist with human cell line propagation and management
Assist with manuscripts and publications (authorship will depend on candidate’s initiative)
Other related duties as assigned

Required

Bachelor's degree and core experience in molecular biology in a laboratory setting
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrated excellent organizational and time management skills
Demonstrated critical thinking skills and excellent attention to detail
Demonstrated ability to work well with a broad group of faculty, staff, and students, including the willingness and ability to train and oversee undergraduate and graduate students
Must be comfortable interacting in an interdisciplinary setting and interacting with researchers from practicing physicians to basic scientists working with patients with rare disease
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate

Preferred

Master's degree with relevant molecular biology laboratory experience
Demonstrated skills designing and managing an ongoing FileMaker Pro database
Experience with quantitative and/or qualitative data collection and analysis
Prior experience with peer-review manuscript preparation and IACUC submission

Retirement Plan Eligibility: The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
