Natural Resources Analyst 2025-03004
The State of Wyoming is seeking a Natural Resources Analyst to join the Wyoming State Geological Survey (WSGS) and specialize in Wyoming's geology and petroleum resources. The role involves data analysis, mapping, fieldwork, and public outreach to promote the sustainable use of geological resources in Wyoming.

Responsibilities
Use subsurface geological data, such as geophysical well logs and cores, to determine the structure and stratigraphy of Wyoming’s basins
Use advanced software to create detailed 2D and 3D geological maps and models
Plan and conduct field studies to collect geological samples, map bedrock, and meticulously document geological formations through measured stratigraphic sections
Prepare detailed technical reports that summarize findings and provide recommendations
Assist in managing projects, including budgeting and timeline management; opportunity to work as part of a team of fellow geologists
Apply your insight into Wyoming’s energy sectors to forecast trends in oil and gas pricing and production, essential for state revenue planning
Respond to inquiries from the public about Wyoming’s geology, deliver engaging presentations, and represent the agency at public outreach events
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in the sciences or a closely related field
0–3 years of progressive work experience in geology with acquired knowledge at the level of a Natural Resource Specialist
Strong writing and public-speaking skills
Familiarity with subsurface geologic interpretation software (e.g., Petra), GIS (ArcPro), and well log interpretation
Broad background in petroleum geology, sedimentology, stratigraphy, structural geology, economic geology, or airborne geophysics
Strong collaboration skills
Ability to conduct independent office and field work
Familiarity with Wyoming's geology and natural resources
Preferred
Master's degree in geology
Background in oil and gas geology, carbon sequestration, airborne geophysics, geologic modeling, groundwater, sedimentology, stratigraphy, structural geology, or economic geology
