NONDESTRUCTIVE TEST EXAMINER

The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard is seeking a Nondestructive Test Examiner to join their Non-Nuclear Inspection and NDT Division within the Quality Assurance Office. The role involves performing various inspection techniques on nuclear and non-nuclear vessels, conducting audits, and collaborating with engineers to resolve inspection-related issues.

Responsibilities

You will perform visual inspection, liquid penetrant inspection magnetic particle inspection, and eddy current inspection or ultrasonic thickness, during the removal and overhaul on both nuclear and nonnuclear ship/boats
You will participate in conducting audits, submitting reports, and recommendations
You will investigate and submit reports on assigned problem areas and special projects
You will perform inspections as a preventative maintenance measure on critical systems on nuclear submarines, welds and components
You will work in association with engineers/metallurgists towards investigation/resolution of problems

Required

Must be a US Citizen
Must be determined suitable for federal employment
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program

You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required
You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift
Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites
This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements
