Engineering Technician (Vehicles)

This position is located in the Smithsonian Institution’s Office of Facilities Management, where the Engineering Technician (Vehicles) is responsible for installing, repairing, and troubleshooting integrated mechanical and electrical systems.

Responsibilities

Troubleshoots mechanical and electrical systems such as automotive diesel and gas repair assets, Diagnostic Equipment, AC/ Air conditioning, EV Electric Motor Repair, etc
Assists Agency Fleet Manager and Mobile Asset Supervisor with conducting regularly scheduled inventories, disposal of surplus and resolving discrepancies
Advises the supervisor of shop stock needs, services parts, and supplies
Performs analysis to ensure cost effective utilization when dealing with vendors
Analyzes, evaluates and reports on complex mechanical and electrical systems operations

Required

One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level in the Federal Service
Specialized experience is defined as: installing, repairing, inspecting, and making repairs to Mobile Asset Equipment (gasoline/diesel assets)
Your resume must be no more than two (2) pages and should clearly demonstrate how your experience aligns with the responsibilities and specialized experience required for this position
Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications
Pass Pre-employment Background Investigation
May need to complete a Probationary Period
Maintain a Bank Account for Direct Deposit/Electronic Transfer
Males born after 12/31/59 must be registered with Selective Service

Preferred

Two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in Automotive Engineering Technology may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirements
Education and experience may be combined to meet the basic qualifications
