Seasonal Maintenance Mechanic (Boats)
Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is looking for a Seasonal Maintenance Mechanic to perform building and utility maintenance duties. The role involves utilizing journeyman skills in various trades to maintain and operate facilities, including historic buildings.

Responsibilities
Perform a variety of duties as a maintenance mechanic on buildings and utilities using journeyman skills in sheet metal, iron, wood crafting, masonry, glazing and painting some of these are historic building and utilities
Work with the building and utilities in constructing new, alter or repair, rehabilitate or modify existing historic items such as windows, doors, posts, beams, stairways, railings interior and exterior moldings siding, rafters, roofing, etc
Operates trucks up to 20,000 GVW on public roads and motor boats up to 30' in length safely on Lake Superior in all weather conditions
Operates and performs preventive maintenance on portable generators, and portable water pumps

Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication
Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males
Direct Deposit: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program
Drug Testing: You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use
Uniform: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided
Minimum Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least (1) 18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program

Motorboat Operation/Instructor Certification Course: Applicant must be able to obtain a Motorboat Operator Certification Course (MOCC) or Motorboat Operator Instructor Certification Course (MOICC) or equivalent after entrance on duty date
Lead Testing: The duties of this position require occasional exposure to lead based material due to the lead paint removal and encapsulating that is completed. As a result of this exposure employees will be required to be subject to lead (blood) testing
Respiratory Fit Testing: The duties of this position require occasional exposure to particles and fumes in painting, carpentry, grinding or other work-related activities. For safety reasons when hazards cannot be eliminated air purifying respirators are required. Employees using respirators are required to participate in a respiratory protection program which includes medical evaluations, fit tests, and following procedures for proper respirator use

Minimum Qualifications: Have experience that demonstrates the ability to perform most of the work as a Maintenance Mechanic at the journeyman level. At this level, performed the work without more than normal supervision. Performed at this level in two of the following trades: Carpentry, Plumbing, Painting, Masonry, Water Treatment Plant Operations, or Roofing
Driver's License: You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you
