Project Engineer - Transportation

Buchart Horn is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Project Engineer - Transportation to support the design and delivery of complex infrastructure projects. In this mid- to senior-level role, you’ll take ownership of technical design efforts, mentor junior staff, and collaborate across disciplines to help bring high-impact transportation projects to life.

Responsibilities

Plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed phases of engineering work on moderate to major transportation projects
Perform and review engineering calculations, addressing design complexities such as conflicting requirements and material limitations
Supervise and mentor project team members, including designers, technicians, EITs, and junior engineers
Support project managers in developing proposals, work plans, budgets, and timelines
Participate in client meetings and coordinate with internal and external project teams
Conduct site visits and fieldwork to support project development and design validation
Develop design plans, profiles, and diagrams using AutoCAD and MicroStation
Process shop drawings, respond to RFIs, edit specifications, and prepare cost estimates
Perform and oversee QA/QC procedures throughout project phases
Maintain technical knowledge of transportation design standards, materials, regulations, and technologies
Assist in resolving construction-related engineering challenges
Contribute to internal training recommendations based on industry trends and technical advancements
Lead or contribute to special technical studies and project reports
Ensure compliance with both corporate and client procedures on design and implementation
Conduct project review sessions to monitor progress and identify any required corrective actions

Required

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Microsoft Office Suite
Strong understanding of transportation design principles, techniques, and regulatory standards
Proven ability to mentor staff and manage technical performance across project teams
Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining quality standards
