Supervisory Speech Pathologist

Responsibilities
The Supervisory Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for the hiring, training, supervision, administrative management, and technical direction of full time Speech-Language Pathologists and associated clinical fellows at the Atlanta VA Medical Center and at other sites designated by the Chief of ASPS or designee
Supervisory responsibility for planning and scheduling work; assigning work to employees; evaluation of work quality and appraising performance to provide recommendations to the Chief of ASPS or designee
Responsible for evaluating the competencies of the staff Speech-Language Pathologists to ensure that the care provided is appropriate
Ensures proper coordination of efficient health care delivery between staff Speech-Language Pathologists
Responsible for development of training, competencies and hiring practices for staff Speech-Language Pathologists to ensure excellence in care delivery
Responsible for development, implementation, and management of Speech Pathology Telehealth services
Responsible for supervision and administrative management of other members of the ASPS service, including at other clinical care sites, in the absence of the Chief of ASPS or designee
Responsible for providing comprehensive clinical services as well as serving as the first point of contact in the clinic for daily workflow issues
Responsibilities include distributing the workload among the Speech-Language Pathologists in accordance to work demands and areas of job specialization, assessing the quality and quantity of the work; making day-to-day adjustments in the assignments based on available resources and in accordance with established priorities
Provides clinic information to the Chief of ASPS or designee
Confers with the Chief of ASPS, or designee on matters that fall outside of routine occurrences or on administrative/supervisory issues outside their designated scope of authority
Handles all supervisory responsibilities and documentation for designated staff and students
Alerts the Chief of ASPS, or designee, to anticipated situations that may adversely affect delivery of clinical services and obtains assistance on problems that may arise
Qualification
Required
U.S. Citizenship
A Master's degree or its equivalent in speech-language pathology, communication disorders, or a directly related field from an accredited college or university
A Master's degree or its equivalent in audiology or hearing science from an accredited college or university
Incumbent must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license in a State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia
Speech and Language Pathologists must be proficient in spoken and written English
Completion of one year of professional experience comparable to the next lower level
Skill to translate contemporary and evidence-based speech pathology practice knowledge into clinical procedures
Skill in effective conflict resolution
Ability to analyze organizational and operational problems to develop and implement solutions
Ability to provide clinical and administrative oversight and ensure that section activities are aligned with management goals and objectives
Preferred
Speech Experience
Managerial Experience (1-2 years)
Acute care/Hospital experience, including ICU care and tracheostomy/ventilator management
Experience with Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) is highly desirable
