Lecturer of Spanish

Coastal Carolina University is a public comprehensive liberal arts institution located in Conway, South Carolina. They are seeking a full-time lecturer of Spanish who will teach all levels of Spanish language and occasionally English-language courses, while contributing to a multi-language department that values diverse perspectives.

Responsibilities

Teaches students in the classroom, laboratory, and/or studio
Prepares content, syllabi, and University Moodle/curricular site for each course and/or lab assigned each semester. Communicates to students after reviewing assignments. Calculates and assigns grades (e.g., mid-term and final) through established procedures listed in the Faculty Manual and University catalog. Tracks and reports absences as directed by the Office of the Registrar
Posts and holds regular office hours each week per College and University guidelines. Engages in University-related activities including committee assignments, meetings, ceremonies, events and scholarly pursuits as prescribed in the Faculty Manual
Performs other duties as assigned

Required

Master's degree in Spanish, Hispanic Studies, or a closely related field
Experience teaching language and culture courses to students from a broad range of majors at a US institution of higher education
Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English
Evidence of proficiency in teaching with technology
Must hold the appropriate terminal degree or meet the established alternative qualifications, and exhibit strong potential for excellence in teaching

Preferred

PhD in Spanish, Hispanic Studies, or a closely related field
Evidence of exceptional teaching
Evidence of interest in ongoing professional development
Demonstrable experience in second language acquisition or languages for the professions
