Responsibilities

Support in translating complex topics into compelling communications for staff that are clear, timely, and grounded in IRC values
Draft, edit, and refine high-quality internal communications on behalf of senior leaders
Develop and maintain FAQs, toolkits, and templates that support managers and leaders in cascading messages effectively
Research and apply creative tools, channels, and content approaches to improve two-way communication
Provide editing and writing support to other departments to ensure consistency and impact in messaging to internal audiences
Promote inclusive and accessible communications, ensuring diverse staff voices are represented
Support the Director, Global Internal Comms with the planning and execution of IRC’s quarterly Global All Staff events, attended by thousands of colleagues across the organization
Coordinate speakers, content, run-of-show, translation needs, and technical logistics in partnership with IT, and the events team
Ensure meetings reflect organizational priorities and surface staff voices, while reinforcing a sense of connection and transparency
Implement, and measure global internal communications campaigns tied to organizational priorities and IRC values
Partner with colleagues across departments to spotlight the work and stories of staff around the world through storytelling, recognition features, and campaigns on IRC’s intranet and other internal channels
Support the Director, Global Internal Comms in maintaining a communications calendar to track and sequence internal messages across key teams and channels
Maintain content on the IRC’s intranet platform (RescueNet) to ensure timely, relevant, and accessible information for global staff
Partner with teams across the organization to ensure updates and resources are surfaced on the intranet, email and Teams in a structured and engaging way
Upload and manage content on the IRC’s intranet (RescueNet), ensuring posts are accurate, accessible, well-formatted, and aligned with IRC voice and values
Format and send internal emails using IRC platforms (e.g., Outlook, MailChimp) to ensure professional, well-timed delivery of key messages
Track project timelines, deliverables, and reviews to ensure communications are executed on time and with cross-functional coordination
Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to align on dissemination timelines, formatting standards, and publishing workflows across channels (email, intranet, Teams)

Required

Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, political science, or a related field required
4–6 years of professional writing and communications experience, preferably in a complex, global organization
Exceptional writer and editor with a strong sense of voice, clarity, and audience
Ability to synthesize complex ideas and information into compelling narratives
Confident communicator with sound judgment and political acumen
Experience managing multiple priorities, timelines, and stakeholders under tight deadlines
Strong understanding of internal communications best practices, including audience segmentation, tone setting, and change communications
Proven ability to maintain discretion and handle sensitive information with integrity and care
Comfortable navigating ambiguity and adjusting communication style or approach based on leadership voice, audience need, and organizational context
Experience using internal digital platforms (e.g., intranet, email tools, Microsoft Teams) to reach and engage distributed workforces
Proficiency in communications and content development tools such as Canva (design), Veed.io (video editing), and DeepL (translation/localization) to support multilingual, multimedia internal communications
Experience formatting, sending, and scheduling internal emails using tools like Outlook and MailChimp (or similar platforms)
Fluency in English required

Preferred

Experience writing for senior leaders, internal audiences, and/or in crisis or change communications is strongly preferred
Familiarity with humanitarian, development, or international issues a plus
Other languages (e.g. Arabic, French, Spanish) a plus
