Heavy Mechanic 2025-03059
The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a dedicated Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team in Lander, Wyoming. In this role, you will work under direct supervision to perform a variety of maintenance and repair functions on heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.

Responsibilities
Conducts a wide variety of preventive maintenance and/or repairs on various diesel and automotive equipment, along with other self-propelled or towed equipment
Performs safety inspections on all types of automotive and diesel equipment
Reads and interprets technical manuals to diagnose and correct problems with vehicles and equipment
Rigs and fabricates new equipment to district standards
Creates repair orders
Responsible for the inventory of the shop, equipment, and supplies
Designs and fabricates parts for tractors, mowers, and machinery for specialized applications
Qualification
Required
Ability to obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver's License
Must pass a series of seven fundamental tests, including Electricity, Engines, Hydraulics, Power Trains, Administrative Procedures, Rigging, and General Shop
2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Heavy Mechanics) OR Associate's Degree with 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Heavy Mechanics)
Preferred
Preference will be given to applicants who have completed any equipment certification exams
Welder Certification card for FH&V Fillet and FH&V Grove 3/4" welds is a plus
