Operating Partner, Finance & Planning
Greybull Stewardship is a US-based private investment firm dedicated to helping smaller, established businesses scale toward their full potential. The Operating Partner, Finance & Planning will lead the transformation and improvement of finance and accounting functions across Greybull’s portfolio companies, focusing on building robust FP&A capabilities and supporting strategic planning.
Responsibilities
Set up and upgrade core accounting processes: chart of accounts, accrual policies, monthly close, and consolidations for multi-entity structures
Develop and implement processes and systems required for a robust FP&A function at the portfolio company level, including budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and business decision support
Recruit, assess, and support finance and accounting talent at portfolio companies
Temporarily manage finance/accounting functions at portfolio companies during periods of transition
Serve as an advisor and coach to portfolio company CFOs, Finance Directors, and Controllers, providing guidance on best practices and strategic financial management
Participate in strategy and planning work for each company, collaborating with senior leaders
Support debt financing and add-on acquisitions
Design and implement standardized frameworks for key shared services—including insurance and banking—across all portfolio companies
Present financial information and insights at twice-yearly portfolio reviews; prepare deep-dive analyses and actionable recommendations
Lead the quarterly valuation process for each portfolio company, including DCF and public comps roll-forward, forecast updates, and discount rate analysis
Support the development of frameworks, playbooks, and processes for portfolio company support across all functions
Manage and optimize the system of record (Chronograph) for portfolio company financials, ensuring efficient data upload and output generation
Contribute to new investment decision-making as needed
Coordinate with management company CFO function and fund administrators as needed
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree required
Minimum of 10 years of leadership experience, including at least five years in a CFO or senior finance role in businesses similar to those in the Greybull portfolio
Experience in companies that grew from less than $5 million in EBITDA to much bigger companies
Expertise in accounting, auditing, and FP&A for both smaller and mid-market businesses
Proven ability to build strong relationships and influence financial accountability without direct supervision
Experience managing internal and external teams, including outsourced providers
Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities under time constraints
Comfortable working and managing in a virtual environment
Preferred
Master's, MBA, or terminal degree preferred
