Responsibilities
Plans and conducts independent Control Systems work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of Control Systems engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria on a medium size project or assignment in support of a global business unit
Leads the design, development, modification, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management
Develops conceptual designs for Control Systems engineering projects or projects having specialized or unique requirements
Supports preparation of estimates, staffing needs, and schedules
Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and supports implementation and assists with performance reporting
Interprets new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data
Coordinates with client representatives, as directed, to obtain their approval of Control Systems aspects of the work
Conducts or leads special studies of new Control Systems engineering methods, materials, and techniques
Mentors Control Systems engineering personnel by providing on-the-job training for their professional development. Provides input to and participates in special technical educational and training programs as directed
Qualification
Required
Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
Broad knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards and design criteria pertinent to the discipline
Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, plant layout, materials, and computers for preparation of analyses and development of project deliverables within the discipline
Knowledge and understanding of technical and cost issues related to selection of design features within the discipline
Knowledge of instrumentation and control valves including specifications, generation of data sheets, application of tubing, and instrument installations
Knowledge of control system design including digital and analog control logic, control system network architecture, allocation of facility control system I/O, graphic displays, and acceptance tests
Previous experience preparing estimated quantities, jobhour estimates, and schedule planning
Skill in leading the technical work of less experienced engineers, designers, and/or drafters who share in the design effort
Demonstrated strong frontline leadership skills and emphasis on continuous improvement and team building and an ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks
Ability to facilitate technical discussions with third parties (e.g., clients, suppliers, regulators)
Licensed Professional Engineering (PE) in Control Systems
