Director of Global Internal Communications
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a leading humanitarian organization responding to global crises. Responsibilities
Develop and implement a multi-year global internal communications strategy aligned with IRC’s organizational priorities
Serve as an advisor to the President, on staff engagement and internal communications approaches
Partner with the People & Culture to shape organizational narratives and ensure a unified voice across change communications, leadership engagement, and internal storytelling
Lead the strategic alignment of internal messages across HQ, regions, and country programs to reinforce clarity, transparency, and connection
Represent Internal Communications in enterprise-wide planning forums
Lead development of leadership communications from the President’s Office, including video messages, all staff remarks, and strategic cascades
Serve as counsel on leadership tone, transparency, and timing, ensuring communications are accessible, human, and aligned with IRC’s values
Partner with the Strategy & Delivery Unit and Strategy & Planning to develop internal rollouts for major organizational priorities, launches, and updates
Oversee the strategic direction, governance, and content of RescueNet, ensuring it serves as a dynamic, engaging, multilingual platform for staff connection
Lead integrated internal campaigns and events—such as World Refugee Day and quarterly Global All Staff Meetings
Partner with Creative Studio and Brand to ensure internal storytelling mirrors the tone and excellence of IRC’s external communications
Define KPIs and measurement frameworks for internal communications effectiveness, clarity, and reach
Leverage data and staff feedback to refine strategies and introduce new tools and formats for engagement (video, storytelling, analytics dashboards, surveys)
Lead, mentor, and grow the internal communications team, cultivating a culture of creativity, accountability, and continuous learning
Manage team budget, resourcing, and freelance/vendor partnerships
Build capacity across regional and departmental communications counterparts, strengthening IRC’s global comms network
Collaborate across the M&M division to ensure internal communications reinforce IRC’s external profile, donor communications, and advocacy narratives
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field
8-10 years of professional experience in communications
Proven experience leading enterprise-wide internal communications strategies that drive engagement, alignment, and change
Experience with multi-channel, multilingual communications and digital platforms (e.g., intranet, CMS, video)
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information, particularly around broader organization strategies, objectives, changes, clearly and persuasively
Strong leadership skills and experience working with a diverse team
Proven ability to develop and implement successful communications strategies in a global organization
Experience with digital communications tools and platforms, including intranet technologies, email management systems, and content management systems
Deep understanding of change management and employee engagement best practices
Strategic thinker with strong operational execution and attention to detail
Collaborative leader with a high degree of emotional intelligence and cross-cultural sensitivity
Strong understanding of measurement, analytics, and audience insight tools
Fluent in English; proficiency in additional languages such as French or Arabic a plus

Strong analytic, web traffic data knowledge, and problem-solving skills
Video editing capabilities
Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic, cross-functional global team structure
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels
Ability to manage and work through change in proactive and positive manner
